Crucial blogging mistakes that Need to Avoid

Bloggers are usually an enthusiastic bunch. The fact that they have decided into go into blogging means they want to leverage its potential to improve the credibility of their business and sell their products and services; or they just want to share their personal opinions, suggestions, ideas and knowledge about their area of expertise with their readers.

Successful bloggers are a success because they Avoid certain Pitfalls, which help the popularity of their blogs skyrocket. Let’s take a look at some of these pitfalls or mistakes:

Expecting Too Much Too Early

Everybody is looking for success and they all want it NOW! But, success should be backed by Quality efforts and also requires you to invest a lot of time into the proceedings; this fact also remains true for your blogging activities. You are not the only blogger out there and even if you have identified a specific niche, there will still be other bloggers catering to that niche. So, the competition is tough. In spite of your best efforts, it will still take time for your blog to create an impression, and earn the kind of attention that you are looking for. So be patient and keep trying.

Irregular Blog Posts

This is a blog killer. Say you have established yourself as a leading authority on a specific niche. Blog readers come to your blog regularly to read your posts, but what if they begin finding a long gap between two blog posts. They might start visiting your blog sporadically or stop visiting altogether. Irregularity in posting your blogs has the potential to kill it. So, make sure that you update your blog regularly. You can make a post every day, every two days or for that matter every week – but the bottom line is that you need to be regular.

No Chutzpah in the Content

Your blog won’t work if your content doesn’t have the passion and the energy that is associated with blogging. Many a times, where bloggers fail is that it seems that their posts have been written just for the heck of it and not because they were actually interested in blogging. Their content looks and sounds lame and doesn’t interest the reader at all. There is no fire in it and it has no redeeming quality whatsoever. If you want your blog readers to know that you are actually interested in sharing information in the form of blog posts with them, then the content must reflect this fact. Remember, the blog is more of a personal attempt to connect with readers through content. If your blog content isn’t appealing or engaging, it is going to end up a failure.

Irrelevant Content

If your blog content is in no way connected to the purpose of the blog as defined by you, it’s not going to work. For e.g. if the purpose behind your blog is offering SEO tips and it goes ahead and offers information about topics that are in no way related to SEO, your blog will be regarded as offering irrelevant content to users. They come searching for SEO tips and they don’t find a lot of relevant information regarding SEO on it. This affects its credibility and your Reputation as a blogger.

Not Replying to Blog Comments

The very fact that your blog is attracting comments is a good thing, but the fact that you don’t reply to these comments is like committing hara-kiri. Of course, there is no point in answering comments that have been put purely for link Building purposes, but you must make it a point to answer the genuine comments, if they are in the form of query or a doubt or even a criticism of what you have written. By answering such comments, you are telling people that you actually care about the reputation of your blog and believe in everything that you have put on the blog and are willing to defend it.

By avoiding these pitfalls, you can not only save your blog from being a failure, but also ensure that your blog actually becomes quite popular and goes on to achieve all its goals.

Tips To Bloggers To Handle Multiple Blogs

1. Evaluate Your Abilities And Be Realistic

Know how many hours you can devote to blogging and understand your other limitations. Consider also your writing style and speed, and the time you’ll need to update each blog.

2. Select Topics That You Know And Love

It’s hard to keep churning out content to feed multiple blogs, harder still if you don’t feel for the topic. You’ll also save a great deal of time blogging about something you know really well, versus researching unfamiliar subjects.

3. Create A Posting Schedule

Determine a posting frequency for each blog and create a monthly or quarterly posting schedule accordingly. Don’t overload certain days with work; spread out your writing work over the week. Create a list of possible topics for each blog and post them according to your schedule.

4. Write A Little Extra Ahead Of Time

Whenever you have an hour or two to spare, clank out a couple of posts and put them aside. You will feel ahead of the game and feel more enthused, knowing you won’t be caught short.

5. Use Guest Bloggers

Be sure to allow guest bloggers to link back to their blog and if possible, offer Adsense revenue sharing. Create a separate page for guest blogs from your reader base as well. Doing this will ensure there’s fresh content on your site both for readers and for search engines.

6. Hire Blog Writers And Editor

If you can afford it, get a couple of freelance writers to write your posts for you. You can even get a part time or full time blog editor to manage your multiple blogs. If you can get another blogger to share your responsibilities for a share in revenue, exposure, backlinks or support barter, go for it.

7. Determine Your Blogging Objectives

Make a list of all your blogs and the blogging objective of each. Are you monetizing all your blogs? Are all your blogs equally important? Listing out the objectives will help you understand exactly which blogs you need to keep and prioritize.

8. Divide Your Blogging Time

Determine if your blogs are startups, mature or midway; this will help you understand time allocation for each. The amount of time you have to devote to a mature blog is slightly lesser than a startup blog. Divide the total time you have in terms of percentages for each blog.

9. Do Your Best Work When You Are Most Alert

Know your body clock; are you most active towards the evening or early in the morning? Use your most productive time for writing, researching, responding to comments and so on. Use your not-so-productive hours to do other tasks. Reversing this system will still get the work done, but with less optimum results.

10. Evaluate Content Posting Frequency

Once you have an idea of how much time you have and how the time is to be divided among your blogs, evaluate your posting frequency. Determine a conservative figure; don’t go over the top. Don’t decide to deliver more than you can manage and disappoint readers.

11. Divide Your Tasks

Research and promotional activities for blog
Research and promotional activities for niche
Online identity management
miscellaneous tasks
Divide the total number of hours you have into 4 segments; 60% for A and the remaining 40% for B, C and D.

12. Club Common Tasks

For example, you can read RSS feeds, do keyword research, moderate comments and so on using the same Tools for all your blogs. As long as you maintain clear folders for each blog, you can avoid confusion.

13. Use The Right Tools

For example, use Google Reader to gather your RSS feeds in one place; create folders, categorize feeds and tag them. Browse RSS feed titles and star them for later. Explore other tools such as Windows Live writer to blog offline, Twitter Feed to tweet your posts, Bookmarking Service to bookmark your post to any Social Media site.

14. Forward All Your Emails To One Account

Use Gmail as your single email server; create folders and labels for emails pertaining to different blogs and organize similar tasks. This keeps all your emailing in one central location.

15. Maintain A Calendar And ToDo List

Create comprehensive ToDo lists for each day/week. Use either Outlook or Google Calendar to mark important events. Sign up for SMS Notification. This way you’ll always know what you need to do and when.

Blogging Is Not A Crime

Blogging Is Not A Crime

I found this arresting chart on Swivel. It plots the number of bloggers who have been incarcerated over the past few years, based on data collected by the World Information Access project. The number of incidents it tracks went from five arrests in 2003 to 35 last year. As blogging expands internationally, so do the risk of speaking one’s mind. (Something many of us take for granted).

Most of those arrests are in countries with oppressive regimes, such as Egypt, China, Saudi Arabia, and Iran. But bloggers have been arrested in Canada, France, Greece, and even the U.S. (with Josh Wolf being one of the most famous incidents—he spent the better part of a year in jail for refusing to turn over journalistic video footage to a grand jury).

A few involve cases of alleged terrorism or pedophilia, but the majority involve some form of political speech. Some typical examples:

  • Reza Valizadeh (Iran; November, 2007). “For revealing Iranian president’s overpriced dogs that his security team uses.”
  • Charles Leblanc (Canada; June, 2006): “For taking pictures at a conference for his blog.”
  • Josh Wolf (USA; August, 2006): “For videotaping a burning police car.”
  • Hu Jia (China; December, 2007): “For posting his vocal critiques of human rights abuses and environmental degradation in China and calling the Olympics a ‘human rights disaster.’”
  • Reza Valizadeh (Iran; November, 2007): “For revealing Iranian president’s overpriced dogs that his security team uses.”
  • Nay Phone Latt (Burma; January, 2008): “For posting pictures of monks and people demonstrating on the streets.”

What is Copy right

Copyright Issues

The hot topic on web always will be Copyright. What is this copyright? And why people won’t allow you to copy their content. This is my target topic today which inspired me to write this article.

Being online from last 2 years, I saw almost all the blogs and sites will include a copyright link mentioning not to copy their content without permission. Are they really taking the rights on that content or just warning the visitors by keeping a simple menu called Copyright. These are all unanswered questions.

But here, is that really necessary to take copyrights or warn users not to copy. I would say it’s not necessary as far as it’s a book or something important you are inventing into web through your blog.

Anyway here am not covering all about copyrights like how to take rights? What to do if anyone violates them? If you are really interested to know them visit labnol.org where Amit covered all those faqs.

But the conclusion from my side is until you are doing something extra which is not reproducible by others, you don’t need to take rights and warn visitors not to copy that. I don’t mind if my visitors copy content from TZI. Because from this I will get link back and intern traffic from that.

But the people who are copying content need to remember that copying content won’t help you anymore. Ofcourse you can take some content or idea from that article or anything limited.

Simple tips to Promote blog ourself

9 Simple tips to Promote blog yourself

I am sharing some of the tips I observed in promoting Blog yourselves. Here you don’t need to ask some one to view your blog or no need to request anyone for anything. You just need to observe and use the resources around you.

Here are some of the sources I observed:

1. Include blog URL in signatures: This is a powerful media to drive the traffic again and again. Naturally you will send tons of mail from your inbox to friends, colleague and to many known and unknown people. So if you include URL in signature, it’s natural that people will click on your URL to know what that is. Here you need to attract them to visit again and again. For that you should have an interesting content on your blog. So just include it and receive the traffic.

One more important thing I forgot to say, People will forward your mail to many people in long run so your URL will travel around the web.

2. Place URL in IM’s: Do place your URL in IM’s like Gtalk, Yahoo messenger, MSN, AOL and etc….

3. Place it in Social Networking Profiles: Yes, do mention URL in profiles of social networking site like Orkut, Facebook, Hi5, MySpace and etc…

4. Submit to Search Engines: Don’t forget to submit your blog to search engines like Google, Yahoo, Live, Cuil and etc…

5. Submit to Social Bookmarking Sites: Promote your content on Social Bookmarking Sites like Digg.com, Reddit.com, StumbleUpon.com, Del.icio.us and etc…

6. Share links with other Bloggers: This is really a powerful trick to drive traffic in the initial stages of your blog. Do share links with Blogs under your niche.

7. Place feed headlines in your other Blogs: If you own multiple blogs, it’s always good to place feed headlines from Feedburner on your blogs. And also place a section called my blogs or my network to let visitors know that you own more that one blog.

8.  Comments on fellow blogsThis is my personal experience; Commenting on other blogs will work like anything. You will get lots of traffic starting from the owner of the blog where you commented to his visitors.

9. Join Blog directories: Now-a-days every Country or City has its own blogging communities maintaining a list of Bloggers from that region or language or etc… By joining in those will drive traffic from your own region or Country.

Did I miss anything? OR Any other you know?

Please share your tips here!
